I am a freelance web and graphic designer based in Teignmouth in Devon and called my business Otero Designs, well because my name is Alejandra Otero. But everybody calls me Alex.I have developed skills and passions in many areas of computing, internet, usability and troubleshooting. Okay, I lie a little. I'm not passionate about troubleshooting but I seem to have a mind that's tuned to that sort of thing.
I've been working as a graphic designer for the past two years for OzbO and even if they still my biggest client I felt I had more to offer as a freelance. I am now living the dream of being a small business owner / internet entrepreneur. I am absolutely in love with my new life, enjoying both the challenges and rewards that come with it.
I was born and raised in Fribourg/Switzerland some 30 years ago. But nope I'm not Swiss. I am a Spaniard beef. Like many, my family exile to Switzerland during the Franco's years... But I see myself more like a European citizen, shorter version when people ask me where I come from!
Therefore, I was raised with both cultures and see both sides: the conservative Spanish and the liberalism Swiss. I'm very grateful to have had the opportunity to grow up in such a multicultural environment. Most of all I've learn at a young age to speak Spanish, French and Italian. English is the only language I had to learn as a grown-up when I moved to UK 5 years ago.
So, I came to England (Bournemouth, of course!) to improve my English. I was supposed to stay 6 months but in the middle of it, I met a lovely marine based in Pool... So I decided to stay and we moved to Devon and still very happy together!
I have always been an artistic person; even as a child. Over the years, as my passion for art grew, I first discovered Photoshop and then Flash and Illustrator. Big Adobe fan here!
To be truthful, I am actually self-taught in web design. The majority of my college courses concentrated on various aspects of print and graphic design. I jumped on the opportunity to take a web design class as soon as it became available, but it was such a new course, and I had been teaching myself web site design and development for so long, that I pretty much already knew everything that they taught in the class. I've worked for OzbO based in Newton Abbot (and still work, but freelance!) for two years and finally moving on in January 2009, so that I could pursue my goal of running my own business full time.
